Indian Lassi


Another adventure with the Food Challenge. Today I have discovered the bitter taste of a traditional Indian Lassi. One of my taste testers had said that it tastes like fresh buttermilk, yet another made a sour face look and was half tempted to spit it out. In a tradition dating back to the beginning of Indian civilization, the Lassi was formed to be the world’s first smoothie. The combination of water and yogurt leaves a silky froth upon your tongue. The most popular Lassi in India just so happens to be the Mango Lassi. The smooth and creamy texture doesn’t compare to that of a Traditional Lassi.

1 3/4 Cups Plain Yogurt
6 Cubes Ice, Crushed
1 1/2 Cups Ice Water
2 tsp. White Sugar
1 Pinch Salt

In a blender, blend the yogurt, ice, water, sugar and salt until mixture becomes frothy. Pour mixture over ice cubes in tall glasses.
