My favorite condiment,  ingredient, or sweetener is honey. I love it, I put it in everything. Tea, chicken, macaroni salad, I even suck it out of straws. Honey can be used as a cough suppressant, in facial scrubs, and also used for a quick boost of energy. Honey is actually the nectar the bees collect from flowers then regurgitated. For those who don’t know what that big word means…the bee vomits and that is the honey. A single hive consists of a single female queen bee, a number of male drone bees to fertilize the new queen bee, and 20,000 to 40,000 female worker bees. In the hive, the bees regurgitate and store the vomit in the honeycomb cells. The nectar in the honeycomb cells have a high water content. Therefore the bees inside the hive fan their wings, creating a strong draft across the honeycomb, making much of the water to evaporate from the nectar. The honey then becomes ripe and ready to eat.

Honey can also be purple. Although hard to find and expensive to buy, purple honey is rich in taste and can’t compare to standard honey. I’m going to have to find some and taste it. I have done some research and read through some opinion that purple honey tastes like cotton candy, grape soda, huckleberries, I’m sure the list goes on. You tell me. An incredible site to research honey is http://www.benefits-of-honey.com there is a large amount of information on that site that could cover so much more then me.

For the food challenge I tasted a piece of honeycomb. And to conclude my post today I can honestly say that pure honey from the honey comb is so much more richer and flavorful then honey from the plastic bear containers. I believe it is worth the extra buck to purchase pure honey then what you get in traditional stores. I have seen on the front of those jars…”pure honey” and maybe it is. But after tasting it personally I don’t believe it is. But like I said earlier…the taste of honey depends on the atmosphere. In Ohio, at Jungle Jim’s, they have an entire isle dedicated to honey from around the world. If your ever out that way check it out. Its worth the look. The piece of honeycomb that I tried was so sweet I couldn’t keep it in my mouth. But that also could have been because the texture of the comb was so waxy. It broke up in my mouth. I had to spit it out. But I think you would only need just a drop of honey to sweeten any tea.
